Russell Brand Denies New Allegations of Sexual Misconduct
British comedian and actor Russell Brand has entered pleas of not guilty against newly filed accusations involving rape and sexual assault. The 50-year-old, currently residing in Florida, appeared at Southwark Crown Court this morning to formally deny the charges, which pertain to alleged incidents dating back to 2009.
Details of the New Charges
According to the prosecution, Brand is accused of raping one woman between February 7 and March 1, 2009, and sexually assaulting another woman between August 31 and December 1 of the same year. These allegations add to the existing legal challenges he faces.

Court Appearance and Personal Presentation
Brand returned from the United States specifically for the hearing, where he confirmed his identity and entered his not guilty pleas without further comment. His arrival at the court was notable for his distinctive attire: a black Mercedes-Benz transported him while he wore a white wide-brimmed hat, a tiger-print shirt left open at the chest, pinstripe trousers, and a large grey overcoat. He also carried a Bible marked with several bookmarks, reflecting his recent embrace of Christianity earlier this year.
Ongoing Legal Proceedings and Background
These new allegations come on top of existing charges against Brand, which include one count each of rape, indecent assault, and oral rape, as well as two counts of sexual assault involving four different women. He previously pleaded not guilty to these five charges during a court appearance in May of last year.

The two additional charges relate to separate complainants and were brought forward following a police investigation initiated in September 2023. This probe was triggered by multiple allegations that surfaced after investigative reports by The Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches program.
Historical Allegations and Context
The original accusations against Brand involve incidents alleged to have occurred between 1999 and 2005. Among these, he is accused of raping a woman in a hotel in 1999 after meeting her at a theatrical event linked to the Labour Party conference in Bournemouth. Another claim involves a woman working in television who alleges Brand assaulted her in a Soho bar in 2004, forcibly engaging in sexual acts after grabbing her inappropriately.

Additional allegations include an incident in 2001 where Brand is said to have indecently assaulted a woman by grabbing her arm and attempting to drag her into a male restroom at a television station. The final known accusation involves an assault on a radio station employee during Brand’s tenure as a presenter on Channel 4’s Big Brother’s Big Mouth between 2004 and 2005.
Brand’s Public Response and Upcoming Trial
Following the initial charges last year, Brand released a video statement online denying all accusations. He described his past as troubled, citing struggles with drug and sex addiction before finding faith, but firmly rejected any claims of non-consensual behavior.
“When I was young and single, before I had my wife and family… I was a fool, man. I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord. I was a drug addict, a sex addict, and an imbecile. But what I never was was a rapist. I have never engaged in non-consensual activity.”
A trial concerning the original five charges is scheduled to commence this summer at Southwark Crown Court, with proceedings expected to last approximately four weeks.
