In a decisive move to enhance security in Ondo State, Nigerian Army personnel successfully neutralized two armed terrorists during a targeted operation on February 14, 2026. The operation, conducted along the Akunu–Auga Road, was executed by troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Auga.

According to Major Irabo Njoka, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 32 Artillery Brigade, the troops acted promptly on reliable human intelligence that indicated suspicious movements of criminal elements in the area. This intelligence enabled the military to mobilize swiftly and intercept the suspects before they could carry out any illicit activities.
Engagement and Outcome
The encounter escalated into a firefight, where the Nigerian Army’s superior firepower led to the elimination of two terrorists. Other suspects reportedly fled the scene, possibly wounded. The operation was a collaborative effort involving the Ondo State Security Network Agency and local vigilante groups, highlighting the importance of multi-agency cooperation in combating insecurity.
Recovered Items and Evidence
Following the clash, security forces recovered several items from the terrorists, including:
- An AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 61 rounds of ammunition
- Three mobile phones
- A jackknife and a torchlight
- Suspected illicit substances and traditional charms
- Cash amounting to ₦39,000
