U.S. Marine Chukwuemeka E. Oforah has died after falling overboard from the USS Iwo Jima into the Caribbean Sea, according to a report by Stars and Stripes.

The incident occurred while the amphibious assault ship was operating in the Caribbean region. Details surrounding the circumstances of the fall have not yet been fully disclosed.

Search and rescue efforts were launched immediately after Oforah was reported missing. U.S. Navy and Marine Corps personnel conducted operations in an attempt to locate him. However, he was later confirmed deceased.
