Residents of Tir-Tser village in Chanchanji Ward, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, are mourning the tragic killing of a young Tiv man, Mr. Stephen Terkaa Terkuma, who was shot dead by unknown gunmen on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

According to local sources, Terkuma was riding his motorcycle from Amadu to Takum when he was ambushed and shot along the Amadu–Takum road. He reportedly died on the spot, leaving passers-by and nearby residents in shock as news of the attack spread through the community.

The killing has deepened fear among residents, especially traders, commuters, and farmers who rely on the route for their daily activities. Many described the road as increasingly dangerous, saying they now travel with anxiety due to repeated reports of violent attacks in the area.

Community members lamented that such incidents have become more frequent in recent weeks, creating a sense of helplessness and insecurity. “People are afraid to move freely now,” a resident said. “This was a young man going about his normal life, and he never returned.”

As of the time of filing this report, the identities of the assailants remain unknown, and no arrests have been made. Residents are calling on security agencies and the Taraba State Government to urgently step up patrols and take decisive action to restore safety along the Amadu–Takum axis.

The killing of Stephen Terkaa Terkuma has once again highlighted the growing insecurity in rural communities and the urgent need for lasting solutions to protect lives and livelihoods in the region.
