The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has formally moved into the ancient Alaafin Palace in Oyo town, marking a significant traditional milestone nine months after his installation as the paramount ruler of Oyo.

The relocation to the historic palace is regarded as an important cultural step, symbolising the full assumption of royal duties and spiritual responsibilities associated with the revered stool of the Alaafin. The palace, which holds centuries of Yoruba history and tradition, serves as the ceremonial and administrative heart of the Oyo Empire.

Traditional chiefs, palace officials, and residents of Oyo town welcomed the development, describing it as a moment that reinforces continuity, heritage, and stability within the ancient kingdom.

Oba Akeem Owoade was installed as Alaafin following traditional rites and consultations, and his move into the palace further cements his position as the custodian of Oyo’s customs, values, and institutions.

The event adds to ongoing cultural activities in Oyo town, as the reign of the new Alaafin continues to take shape.
