Successful Military Operation Leads to Rescue of Six Kidnap Victims in Kaduna

On January 5, 2026, troops from Sector 1 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) achieved a significant breakthrough by rescuing six individuals who had been abducted in the Kajuru/Kujama area of Kaduna State. This accomplishment is part of a broader, synchronized military campaign targeting multiple locations within the Chikun, Kajuru, Kachia, and Kagarko Local Government Areas, extending to the border communities near Kauru.

Strategic Offensive to Curtail Violent Extremism

Lieutenant Colonel Shuaib Umar, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 1 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 1 OPFY, revealed that these operations are meticulously planned to restrict the mobility and operational capabilities of violent extremist groups within the Joint Operations Area (JOA). The initiative aims to enhance security and stability across the wider Sector 1 OPFY jurisdiction.

Rapid Response to Intelligence Reports

Following an urgent alert regarding hostile activities near the Kasso adjoining hills, Sub-Sector 5 troops, already engaged in clearance missions around Kujeni, quickly redirected their efforts to the reported location. Upon arrival, the soldiers encountered the kidnappers and engaged them with precise suppressive fire, compelling the criminals to retreat hastily into the surrounding forested terrain.

Rescue and Reintegration of Victims

Capitalizing on the tactical advantage, the troops conducted an immediate area sweep, successfully liberating six abducted victims. These individuals were promptly handed over to officials from the Kajuru Local Government Area and the Kajuru Emirate Council, who are facilitating their safe return to their families. This rescue underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting civilians and restoring peace in volatile regions.

Command Leadership Encourages Continued Vigilance

Major General Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed Wase, General Officer Commanding Sector 1 OPFY, praised the troops for their bravery and effectiveness. He urged them to maintain heightened alertness and sustain an aggressive operational tempo to prevent criminal elements from regaining footholds within the Joint Operations Area.
