Renewed Wave of Kidnappings and Killings in Southern Kaduna
In a disturbing escalation of violence, armed bandits abducted an elderly woman and her granddaughter in Southern Kaduna’s Sanga Local Government Area on Monday night, just two days after murdering her son and another individual in Arak village.
The abducted woman has been identified as Mrs. Averik Arak. Her son, Habila Averik, was killed on Saturday, leaving the family devastated. The attackers reportedly took advantage of Mrs. Arak’s frail health during the second assault.
Widespread Abductions Across Kaduna State
Similar violent incidents have been reported in neighboring local government areas. In Kajuru, bandits kidnapped 15 villagers, predominantly children, from Unguwan Sarki Maro. Meanwhile, in Kadage village within Kauru Council, approximately 16 people were abducted and one person was fatally shot.
A local informant from Kadage revealed that over 100 residents from seven surrounding villages in Kauru have been held hostage by bandits between December 1, 2025, and January 4, 2026. The source expressed frustration over the lack of media coverage on the surge in kidnappings and killings in the region.
Fatal Attack in Kachia Town Near Federal University
Earlier reports from SaharaReporters detailed a deadly overnight raid in Kachia town, Southern Kaduna, where four members of a single family were murdered. The attack took place late Friday night near the Federal University of Applied Science, the administrative center of Kachia Local Government Area.
The victims were identified as Mr. Bitrus Bahago, his wife Mrs. Justina Bitrus Bahago, their son Ibrahim Bitrus Bahago, and a relative, Adam Waziri. According to family sources, the assailants arrived in large numbers, indiscriminately opening fire on residents and injuring several others, who were subsequently hospitalized.
Local residents described the incident as terrifying, highlighting the community’s vulnerability despite its proximity to significant educational institutions and security agencies.
