Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has announced the official declaration of Peter Obi into the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the move as a major milestone in Nigeria’s evolving political coalition landscape.

In a statement shared via his official X handle, Atiku welcomed Obi, whom he referred to as “my brother and associate”, and expressed optimism that their collaboration would help build a strong, united opposition capable of forming a government that delivers peace and prosperity to Nigerians.

Atiku noted that the ADC coalition movement formally kicked off in Enugu, the capital of the Southeast region, adding that the development is expected to inspire other political figures to join what he described as a widening reform coalition. He emphasized that the alliance seeks to strengthen democratic engagement and reposition the opposition ahead of future political contests.

OYOGist observes that this development signals a significant realignment within Nigeria’s political space, with growing interest in broad-based coalition structures among opposition leaders.

More reactions are expected from stakeholders and party officials in the coming days.
