Oorelope LG Vice Chairman Launches Comprehensive Economic Empowerment Initiative
Supporting Local Traders and Strengthening Political Structures
On Monday, Honorable Wasiu Adewale Babatunde (Adua), serving as the Vice Chairman of Oorelope Local Government in Oyo State, spearheaded a significant empowerment drive targeting beneficiaries from all ten wards within the council area.
The program involved the disbursement of financial aid aimed at bolstering grassroots commerce and reinforcing political leadership at the ward level. Specifically, the Vice Chairman allocated a total of 500,000 naira to the Binukonu Foodstuff Dealers Association alongside the ten Ward PDP members. Additionally, each of the ten PDP Ward Chairmen received 100,000 naira to support their roles in community mobilization.
Fostering Economic Growth Through Grassroots Support
This initiative was conceived as a strategic response to the economic challenges confronting small-scale traders and foodstuff vendors in the region. By injecting capital directly into these local businesses, the Vice Chairman aims to stimulate economic activity and promote sustainable growth within Oorelope’s markets.
“Empowering our traders is fundamental to revitalizing the local economy. When we invest in those at the grassroots, we create a ripple effect that benefits the entire community,” Hon. Babatunde remarked during the event.

Beyond economic empowerment, the Vice Chairman emphasized the importance of robust political frameworks at the ward level. He highlighted that the PDP Ward Chairmen play a pivotal role in maintaining party unity and facilitating effective governance.
“Our ward leaders are the pillars of political organization within Oorelope. Supporting them ensures that our party remains cohesive and responsive to the needs of our constituents,” he explained.

Hon. Babatunde also noted that this empowerment scheme complements ongoing developmental projects within the local government, reflecting a holistic approach to community advancement.
“We recognize the economic pressures faced by our people, and this intervention is a deliberate effort to alleviate those burdens while encouraging business expansion across all wards,” he added.
