Children’s Christmas Party: Oyo First Lady Urges Children to Embrace Love, Kindness, Hard Work

Oyo State First Lady Inspires Children to Uphold Core Values for a Promising Tomorrow

On Sunday, Mrs. Tamunominini Olufunke Makinde, the First Lady of Oyo State, called on children throughout the state to adopt principles such as love, integrity, kindness, and diligence as the bedrock for a successful future.

Festive Celebration at Agodi Gardens

The message was delivered during the 2025 Children’s Christmas Party held at Agodi Gardens, Queen Elizabeth Road, Ibadan. The event featured a vibrant celebration of the holiday season, highlighted by the distribution of Christmas gift packages to children from various communities.

Deputy Governor’s Wife Emphasizes the Spirit of Christmas

Representing Mrs. Makinde was Chief Mrs. Ajibike Lawal, spouse of the Deputy Governor, who reflected on Christmas as a period of introspection, generosity, and love, deeply rooted in the teachings and life of Jesus Christ.

“Christmas is a unique occasion where we unite to honor the birth of Jesus Christ, who exemplified compassion, sacrifice, and unconditional love,” Lawal remarked.

She added, “This season embodies joy, peace, and giving, and today’s gathering is a testament to that spirit, bringing happiness to our young ones.”

Empowering the Future Leaders of Oyo State

Addressing the children directly, Mrs. Lawal highlighted their vital role in shaping both the state’s and the nation’s future.

“You are tomorrow’s leaders. Embrace honesty and hard work, and always aim to become the best version of yourselves,” she encouraged.

She also urged the children to nurture empathy and kindness, emphasizing that even the smallest gestures of love can have a profound impact on society.

“Show kindness to one another. Every small act of compassion can transform lives. Reach out to those in need and spread love, especially to the less fortunate,” she advised.

Government’s Commitment to Child Welfare and Inclusion

In her opening remarks, Mrs. Toyin Balogun, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, explained that the event was intentionally designed to place children at the heart of the festive celebrations.

“Today is dedicated to honoring our children, who are the pride of Oyo State and the driving force behind our efforts to build a safer, more inclusive, and prosperous future,” Balogun stated.

She reaffirmed the state government’s dedication, under Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership, to implementing policies and programs that safeguard children’s rights and promote their comprehensive development.

Mrs. Balogun also highlighted that the Christmas party serves as a platform to extend joy to families across the state.

“This celebration is not just about today; it symbolizes hope, innocence, and the promise of a brighter tomorrow. We are committed to expanding this initiative to reach even more children in the coming years,” she concluded.

Looking Ahead: Building a Brighter Future for Oyo’s Children

With over 40% of Nigeria’s population under the age of 15, initiatives like the Oyo State Children’s Christmas Party play a crucial role in nurturing the next generation. By fostering values of love, honesty, and hard work, the state government aims to empower children to become responsible and compassionate citizens.

Such community-focused events not only celebrate the festive season but also reinforce the importance of social inclusion and child welfare, aligning with global efforts to improve childhood development outcomes.
