ASUP OYSCATECH Chapter Wraps Up 2025 Academic Year with Vibrant End-of-Year Festivities
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) at Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology (OYSCATECH), Igboora Chapter, recently culminated the 2025 academic session with a dynamic two-day End-of-Year Special Event. The celebration was a blend of recognition ceremonies, health initiatives, and communal festivities that highlighted the union’s dedication to excellence and member welfare.
Unity and Wellness: Kickoff Activities
On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the event commenced with a wellness walk around the campus, designed to foster physical health and strengthen bonds among union members. This was followed by an engaging football match pitting the ASUP OYSCATECH team against their peers from Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa (AOPE) Chapter. Demonstrating both competitive spirit and camaraderie, the OYSCATECH squad clinched victory. Dr. (Mrs) Olubukola Deborah Adelakun, Chairperson of the organizing committee, praised the AOPE Chapter for their enthusiastic participation, emphasizing the importance of such inter-institutional collaborations in promoting unity.
Health Awareness and Educational Insights
The following day, December 17, began with comprehensive health screenings for academic staff, underscoring the union’s commitment to member well-being. This was succeeded by an enlightening lecture titled “We Are What We Eat,” delivered by Dtn. (Mrs) Ojo Oluwabunmi Vivian from the Department of Dietetics at University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan. The talk emphasized the critical role of nutrition in maintaining academic productivity and overall health, aligning with global trends that link diet to cognitive performance.
Honouring Dedication: Retirees and Distinguished Members
A poignant moment of the event was the recognition of retired academic staff for their invaluable contributions over the years. Representing the retirees, former Deputy Rector Dr. Ariyo Olusanjo Okunlola expressed heartfelt gratitude to the ASUP leadership, led by Comrade Tiamiyu Mumini Bamidele, for their unprecedented support and exemplary stewardship, a milestone in the institution’s history.
Additionally, the union bestowed the prestigious ASUP Ambassador Award on Comrade (Dr.) Babatunde Afeez Adeniyi, a former Chapter Chairman and current Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), acknowledging his unwavering dedication to the union’s unity and advancement.
Special Recognitions for Community Leaders
The event also celebrated notable societal contributors. High Chief Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke (FCA), who chaired the occasion, received a Special Recognition Award for his impactful societal contributions. Other honorees included Dr. Amusan Damilare Gideon, Chairman of the Governing Council; Hon. Sharafa Olanioye, former Chairman of Ibarapa Central Local Government; and Hon. Abdul Rasheed Olanrewaju Ariwoola, all recognized for their exemplary public service and support to the institution.
Progress and Achievements Under Current Leadership
In his keynote address, ASUP Chapter Chairman Comrade Tiamiyu Mumini Bamidele highlighted the executive’s significant strides in enhancing staff welfare and the academic environment. Key accomplishments include the successful negotiation and disbursement of salary arrears and increments, reduction of tax burdens, preservation of academic allowances, active involvement in program accreditation processes, and the establishment of a functional Governing Council.
Moreover, the chapter hosted its inaugural ASUP OYSCATECH colloquium and international conference, facilitated regular staff promotions, launched the ASUP Endwell Scheme for member support, renovated the union secretariat, procured essential office equipment, and developed an official chapter website. The union also maintained robust participation in national ASUP activities, reflecting a commitment to both local and broader academic community engagement.
Comrade Tiamiyu attributed these successes to the collective effort and unwavering solidarity of the union members, emphasizing that such progress is a testament to shared dedication.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the General Secretary, Comrade Akanji Kayode Ayanwusi, who reiterated the executive’s pledge to protect members’ interests and propel the institution forward in the upcoming year.
