Oyo State to Launch 2026 Hajj Pilgrimage from Upgraded Ibadan Airport
Sheikh Hashim Atere, Chairman of the Muslim Wing of the Oyo State Pilgrims Welfare Board, has announced that the upcoming 2026 hajj pilgrims from Oyo State will depart from the newly enhanced Ladoke Akintola International Airport in Ibadan.
Airport Upgrades Enable Wide-Body Aircraft Operations
Speaking to journalists in Ibadan, Sheikh Atere highlighted that the state government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, has completed all necessary improvements to accommodate wide-bodied aircraft at the airport. This development ensures a smooth takeoff and landing experience for large planes.
He referenced the recent successful landing and departure of the wide-bodied aircraft that transported President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Ibadan for the coronation of the Olubadan, His Imperial Majesty Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, in September. This event served as a practical demonstration of the airport’s readiness.
Government and Aviation Authorities Confirm Readiness
Prior to the presidential visit, the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development conducted two thorough inspections of the airport facilities and expressed satisfaction with the upgrades. Sheikh Atere emphasized that these endorsements guarantee no obstacles for pilgrims departing from Ibadan for the 2026 hajj.
Appreciation for Government Support and Commitment to Pilgrims
The chairman extended gratitude to Governor Makinde for his steadfast backing, attributing the board’s recent accolades and recognitions to this support. He reassured prospective pilgrims that the board is dedicated to delivering an improved and seamless pilgrimage experience compared to previous years.
Important Payment Deadline for Pilgrims
Sheikh Atere urged all intending pilgrims to fulfill their financial commitments promptly, reminding them that the final payment deadline is December 5, with no extensions planned. This measure is crucial to ensure proper planning and logistics for the pilgrimage.
Looking Ahead: Enhanced Pilgrimage Experience
With the upgraded airport facilities and strong governmental collaboration, Oyo State is poised to offer its pilgrims a more comfortable and efficient journey to the holy sites in 2026. This initiative aligns with broader efforts across Nigeria to improve pilgrimage infrastructure and services, reflecting a growing trend of modernization in religious travel.
