Oyo State Local Government Leaders Applaud Governor Makinde’s Proactive Approach to Ibadan Circular Road Challenges

Community Engagement and Conflict Resolution

The collective of Local Government Chairpersons in Oyo State has expressed strong approval of Governor Seyi Makinde’s empathetic and hands-on leadership style, especially in tackling the concerns of residents impacted by the Ibadan Circular Road development. In a statement issued on Wednesday evening, signed by Hon. Sikiru Sanda, chairman of the forum, and disseminated by the publicity secretary, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, the leaders highlighted the governor’s direct involvement with affected homeowners, local chiefs, and those displaced by demolitions along the project’s corridor.

The forum commended the peaceful nature of protests organized by the affected communities and underscored Governor Makinde’s unwavering dedication to prioritizing the needs and welfare of his constituents.

Assurances on Property Rights and Compensation

“Governor Makinde listens attentively to the people’s voices. He vowed to be a leader for the masses and has consistently upheld that promise,” the statement affirmed. The chairmen acknowledged the recent difficulties faced by property owners along the Circular Road, particularly those whose buildings were slated for removal, but noted that the governor’s interventions have alleviated their anxieties.

Importantly, the governor guaranteed that no residential structure would be demolished without fair compensation. He also reiterated his decision not to enforce the 500-meter setback rule in areas where homes are already established, a move that has been welcomed by the communities involved.

Administrative Shift and Project Oversight

The forum revealed that oversight of all issues related to the Circular Road and its adjoining zones will now be managed by the New Town and Cities Development Authority. This agency will collaborate closely with affected residents and demolition victims, replacing the previous role of the Ministry in charge, as confirmed by Governor Makinde.

Strategic Importance and Economic Prospects of the Ibadan Circular Road

According to the local government leaders, the Ibadan Circular Road is a strategic infrastructure project aimed at linking key ingress and egress points around Ibadan. Once completed, it is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in the city center by diverting heavy vehicles and facilitating smoother transit.

The project incorporates modern features such as dedicated express lanes, multiple bridges, and solar-powered communication systems, reflecting a commitment to sustainable urban development.

From an economic standpoint, the chairmen anticipate that the road will enhance property values and invigorate commercial activities in adjacent neighborhoods. This aligns with broader urban renewal efforts designed to stimulate growth in residential, business, and industrial sectors around Ibadan.

Call for Community Support in Urban Development Initiatives

In closing, the forum urged residents, particularly those living on the city’s outskirts, to back Governor Makinde’s administration in executing the Ibadan Master Plan. This comprehensive blueprint aims to foster balanced urban expansion and improve living standards through infrastructural upgrades and new development corridors.
