PDP Appoints Francis Orogu as Acting National Vice Chairman for North Central Zone
The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has officially named Francis Orogu as the Acting National Vice Chairman representing the North Central region. This decision was announced by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, in a statement released on Tuesday.
Context Behind the Appointment
This appointment comes in the wake of the expulsion of Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, the former National Vice Chairman (North Central), by the party’s 2025 National Elective Convention. Notably, Abdulrahman Mohammed has since been designated as the Acting National Chairman of the Nyesom Wike-led faction of the PDP. This faction recently expelled Umar Damagum, who organized the Ibadan elective convention that established the current NWC leadership.
Procedural Basis and Party Directives
The NWC’s decision was made during its 610th meeting, in accordance with Article 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (as amended). Prior to this new role, Hon. Orogu served as the Secretary of the North Central Zonal Executive Committee within the party.
Orogu will hold the position of Acting National Vice Chairman (North Central) until a substantive chairman is elected for the zone. The PDP has called on all party members, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, the media, and the public to acknowledge this change.
Call for Unity and Collaboration
The NWC emphasized the importance of solidarity among PDP members, particularly those in the North Central zone. Members are encouraged to support Orogu and other party leaders to foster unity and drive the party’s progress and success.
