AugustSecrets Champions Nutritious African-Inspired Foods for Families
Last weekend, AugustSecrets, a pioneering Nigerian nutrition brand, welcomed families to an exclusive gathering titled ‘Jaden’s Pop-up’. The event aimed to promote wholesome, African-inspired dietary choices for young children and their families through the brand’s signature Jaden’s Natural Cereals.
Collaborative Efforts with The Baby Lounge to Engage Families
In collaboration with The Baby Lounge, a leading childcare organization, the event featured interactive activities including yoga sessions, engaging games, and nutritious snacks. A standout moment was when children, many of whom are loyal Jaden’s customers, showcased their culinary skills by preparing dishes like waffles for attendees. Each child participant received thoughtful gifts and consolation prizes. Additionally, Jaden’s Kitchen highlighted the health advantages of indigenous ingredients by serving Mushroom Sauce paired with rice, emphasizing the nutritional value of locally cultivated mushrooms and other African superfoods.

Empowering Women and Youth Through Mushroom Farming
AugustSecrets, supported by the Challenge Fund for Youth Employment (CFYE)-an initiative by the Dutch government-currently empowers over 1,000 women and young entrepreneurs across Nigeria to cultivate and market mushrooms and mushroom-based products. This initiative not only fosters economic growth but also encourages the integration of nutrient-rich foods into everyday diets.
Founder’s Vision: Prioritizing African Foods for Better Health
Oluwatoyin Onigbanjo, the visionary behind AugustSecrets, shared insights on the event’s purpose, emphasizing the critical need for healthier nutrition among children and families using African superfoods.
“AugustSecrets began as a personal quest to find nutritious food options for my son. Today, we have nourished thousands of children with homemade-style cereals and snacks crafted from African ingredients. Our mission is to elevate African foods from being an afterthought to a dietary priority, combating widespread nutritional deficiencies in young children. While many recognize AugustSecrets as a baby-focused brand, our vision has expanded to embrace the entire family,” she explained.
She further highlighted the company’s commitment to ongoing education and awareness campaigns aimed at guiding families away from ultra-processed foods toward more wholesome, natural alternatives.

The Critical Challenge of Malnutrition in Developing Nations
Malnutrition and nutrient deficiencies continue to pose severe risks to maternal and child health in many developing countries. These conditions contribute to nearly 45% of child mortality worldwide, cause irreversible developmental impairments, and hinder economic productivity and overall well-being. According to the World Health Organization, over 149 million children under five are stunted globally, underscoring the urgent need for nutritious interventions like those championed by AugustSecrets.
