Ogun APC Officially Rejects Senator Gbenga Daniel’s Membership

The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally announced that Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel is no longer recognized as a member of the party. The party reaffirmed that his suspension remains in full effect and binding.

Party Leadership Confirms Suspension and Invalidates Engagements

In a letter addressed to the APC National Chairman, the Ogun APC leadership emphasized that any political or official interactions with Senator Daniel are considered null and void. The letter, dated October 3, 2025, and signed by State Chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi and State Secretary Hon. Tella Aderibigbe, was made public through a statement issued in Abeokuta by Lekan Adeniran, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The party highlighted that Senator Daniel’s suspension, which took effect on August 19, 2025, was properly communicated to him. Referencing Article 21 (vii) of the APC constitution, the statement clarified that suspended members forfeit all party privileges, including voting rights, attendance at meetings, and participation in party activities.

Disciplinary Measures and Party Constitution Enforcement

According to the APC, the disciplinary framework explicitly prohibits suspended members from engaging in any party organ’s proceedings during the investigation period. The party further cautioned government officials, political allies, and the public against acknowledging Daniel as a legitimate APC member until his suspension is officially revoked.

“Any dealings with Otunba Olugbenga Daniel in the capacity of a bona fide APC member are invalid and unrecognized by the party,” the statement asserted. The Ogun APC reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline, order, and adherence to its constitution.

Senator Daniel’s Camp Rejects Suspension as Politically Motivated

In response, Senator Daniel’s media aide, Steve Oliyide, dismissed the suspension as a politically driven maneuver orchestrated by individuals threatened by the senator’s growing influence and close ties with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Oliyide pointed out that the suspension did not originate from Daniel’s registered ward. He explained that the purported suspension was initiated by “unknown executives” from Ward 4 in Sagamu Local Government, whereas Senator Daniel is officially registered in Ward 12 (Isote) within the same council.

Allegations of Forged Documents and Misuse of Government Platforms

He revealed that members and leaders of Ward 12 have petitioned both state and national party executives to reject what they describe as an “illegal and politically motivated” suspension. Oliyide also accused the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of disseminating unsigned statements through government channels to propagate a misleading narrative.

“The statement circulating is unsigned, and our investigations show it is being pushed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary. When did the CPS become the party’s spokesperson?” Oliyide questioned.

Calls for Evidence and Accusations of Internal Power Struggles

Oliyide challenged the party officials to produce the alleged letter sent to the National Chairman or any official suspension document, insisting that no such correspondence exists. He described the entire episode as a calculated effort to sideline Otunba Daniel and pave the way for other aspirants targeting the Senate seat.

Recent political analysts note that internal party conflicts like this are increasingly common ahead of election cycles, as competition for key positions intensifies. The Ogun APC’s firm stance and Daniel’s outright rejection of the suspension underscore the deep divisions within the party’s state chapter.
