Empowering Women Through Digital and Entrepreneurial Training
SkillHer, a dynamic community committed to fostering women’s empowerment through skill development and career growth, has recently concluded a transformative training program. This initiative aims to equip young women with the tools necessary to thrive in today’s competitive digital economy.
Collaborative Effort to Bridge the Skills Gap
In partnership with the Development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC) and generously supported by the Ford Foundation, SkillHer launched the Skills Acquisition Workshop (SAW). This program focused on enhancing the digital literacy and entrepreneurial capabilities of 100 young women in Ibadan.
Comprehensive Training in High-Demand Skills
Throughout a series of immersive sessions, participants engaged in practical learning experiences covering web development, social media strategy, sales and marketing techniques, and graphic design. The curriculum was designed to help them build a strong online presence, develop effective business plans, and produce visually appealing brand content.
Participant Experiences Highlight Impact
Attendees reported significant personal and professional growth. Deborah Omotayo reflected, “The sales and marketing module reshaped my perspective, empowering me to confidently manage my business and pursue excellence.” Similarly, Dorcas Isawumi noted, “I gained essential skills in website creation and foundational coding knowledge, which have opened new career pathways for me.”

Advancing Gender Equality in the Workforce
The successful completion of this workshop marks a significant step forward in SkillHer’s mission to reduce gender disparities in access to vital skills and economic opportunities. By empowering young women to convert their knowledge into tangible value, the organization is nurturing a new generation of confident, skilled professionals who are poised to make meaningful contributions within their communities and beyond.
Looking Ahead: Sustaining Momentum for Women’s Empowerment
As digital transformation accelerates globally-with over 4.9 billion internet users worldwide as of 2024-programs like SkillHer’s SAW are crucial in preparing women to participate fully in the digital economy. By continuously expanding access to relevant training, SkillHer is helping to close the gender gap in technology and entrepreneurship, fostering inclusive growth and innovation.
