Nigeria Immigration Service Terminates Officer Over Brother’s Kidnapping, Sanctions 31 Others

Nigeria Immigration dismisses officer involved in abduction case

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has officially dismissed Chukwu Nancy Ngozi, a junior officer found to be the mastermind behind the abduction of her own elder brother. Alongside her, another junior officer, Aliyu Usman, was also terminated following a thorough internal investigation.

Disciplinary Actions Following Serious Offenses

Both officers were found guilty of multiple grave offenses, including criminal conspiracy, theft, unlawful possession of firearms, and kidnapping. These findings emerged from disciplinary hearings concluded on April 14 and September 4, 2025, as confirmed by ACI Akinsola Akinlabi, the official spokesperson for the NIS.

Comprehensive Review of Disciplinary Cases

In a broader crackdown on misconduct, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) recently reviewed 31 disciplinary cases involving NIS personnel. This review was based on recommendations from the Board’s Disciplinary and General-Purpose Committee (BDGPC), which convened on July 11, 2025.

As a result, eight officers were dismissed for serious breaches of service regulations, while five others faced compulsory retirement due to misconduct. Additionally, eight personnel were demoted by one rank, and five received formal written warnings.

Appeals and Reinstatements

The Board also examined appeals from two dismissed officers but rejected both due to insufficient grounds. However, one officer was reinstated after a successful appeal, and two others were cleared of all allegations.

Commitment to Upholding Integrity

ACI Akinsola Akinlabi emphasized that the dismissals of Chukwu Nancy Ngozi and Aliyu Usman highlight the Board’s unwavering dedication to enforcing the highest ethical and professional standards within the Service. He assured the public that disciplinary measures would be applied impartially and in strict accordance with existing laws and regulations.

Background of the Abduction Case

Earlier in July, the Enugu State Police Command arrested Ngozi Nancy Chukwu and her sister, Juliet Chukwu, an officer with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The sisters, hailing from Amaeze village in Ishiagu, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, were implicated in orchestrating the kidnapping of their elder brother, Mr. Friday Chukwu.

The abduction took place along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway near the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla. Reports indicate that a ransom of ₦30 million was paid for Mr. Chukwu’s release. The sisters were also linked to the kidnapping of Mr. Dennis Igwe, the General Manager of China Oriental Mining Company, in the same vicinity.
