As Hammed commemorates another milestone in his life, it is fitting to recognize his unwavering devotion to journalistic integrity, his fervent enthusiasm for storytelling, and his steadfast adherence to ethical standards. His career trajectory exemplifies how focus, hard work, and resilience can shape a remarkable journalist.
From his formative years as a campus reporter at the University of Ibadan, where he sharpened his craft, to his current leadership role as the publisher of Fresh Page, Hammed has consistently showcased an exceptional talent for bringing vital stories to the forefront.
Mentorship and Collaboration: Shaping a Generation of Journalists
During my decade-long tenure as the inaugural Director of Public Communication at the University of Ibadan, I had the privilege of collaborating with some of Nigeria’s most gifted student journalists. Among them, three individuals distinguished themselves through their professionalism, dedication, and creative storytelling: Abraham Oladipupo (The Guardian), Sikiru Akinola (The Nation, now publisher of Oyo Insight), and Hammed Hamzat (The Nation, now publisher of Fresh Page).
Their contributions were pivotal in advancing the university’s communication objectives, and their passion for narrating the university’s stories on national platforms was both inspiring and impactful.
