The political landscape in Anambra State has recently been shaken by a public display of discord between Uche Ekwunife, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy Governorship candidate, and Governor Chukwuma Soludo. At a recent event, Ekwunife notably avoided acknowledging Governor Soludo, signaling a deepening divide as the November governorship election approaches.
This tension traces back to Governor Soludo’s public doubts regarding the legitimacy of Ekwunife’s academic credentials, specifically questioning the validity of her doctoral degree. This accusation ignited a fierce rebuttal from Ekwunife, who criticized Soludo’s governance style and personal behavior.
In her response, Ekwunife accused the governor of failing to address critical issues such as security and effective administration within the state. She also made pointed personal remarks about his hygiene, intensifying the conflict.
Escalating the controversy, Ekwunife made serious allegations involving Governor Soludo’s wife, Nonye Soludo, claiming she had an extramarital relationship with the late former governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju. Furthermore, she cast aspersions on the paternity of some of Mrs. Soludo’s children.
Mrs. Soludo responded promptly, issuing a stern 72-hour deadline demanding a public retraction and apology from Ekwunife, warning of impending legal proceedings if ignored. She also proposed a public oath of chastity and suggested DNA testing to resolve the paternity questions once and for all.
Rejecting these demands, Ekwunife dismissed the threats and challenges, asserting that Mrs. Soludo owed explanations to her husband alone, not to her.
