In a significant security operation in Zamfara State, law enforcement officials apprehended an individual suspected of trafficking firearms in Gusau. The confiscated arsenal included rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), AK-47 rifles, and various types of ammunition, intended for distribution in the Dansadau locality.
The arrest took place on Sunday, November 2, 2025, following a targeted intelligence-led mission aimed at curbing the influx of illegal weapons through the state capital.
Security expert Zagazola Makama revealed that the contraband was ingeniously hidden within a shipment of dried fish, a tactic designed to bypass routine inspections.
Initial inquiries indicate that the firearms likely originated from the Lake Chad basin, a notorious corridor for smuggling arms used by insurgent and criminal factions active in Nigeria’s North-West region.
“The suspect was intercepted while attempting to transport the weapons to Dansadau, an area recently plagued by banditry,” a source close to the investigation disclosed to Zagazola.
