Oyo State’s Golden Jubilee: A Call for Creative Participation in Landmark Celebrations
Honoring Five Decades of Progress and Unity
Hon. Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, Chairman of the Oyo State @ 50 Celebrations Committee, recently unveiled exciting plans to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Oyo State’s establishment. Emphasizing the importance of creativity and inclusivity, he invited artists, designers, and innovators from within and beyond the state to participate in the Logo Design, Theme, and Mascot Challenge. This initiative aims to highlight the rich cultural heritage and dynamic spirit of Oyo State as it marks this historic milestone.
Showcasing Oyo State’s Achievements and Resilience
At a press briefing held at the Local Government Staff Training School in Agodi, Ibadan, Akinade-Fijabi detailed how the celebrations will spotlight the state’s remarkable journey over the past fifty years. The event will celebrate the ingenuity, talents, and unwavering resilience of Oyo’s people, while also recognizing those who have significantly contributed to the state’s development across various sectors.
Inclusive Celebrations Across All Zones
The festivities are set to span all six geopolitical zones of Oyo State, ensuring broad participation from diverse communities. The committee plans to engage stakeholders from every walk of life-including government branches, traditional and religious leaders, artisans, students, farmers, entrepreneurs, and persons living with disabilities-to foster a truly inclusive celebration that reflects the state’s unity and shared aspirations.
Details of the Logo, Theme, and Mascot Competition
Creative individuals are encouraged to submit original designs that encapsulate the spirit of Oyo State’s golden jubilee-honoring its past accomplishments, vibrant present, and visionary future. Entries will be accepted from Monday, November 3rd to Monday, November 10th, 2025, via email at oyostate@50@oyostate.gov.ng or through WhatsApp at 09163121000. Governor Seyi Makinde’s Vision for the Jubilee
Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde, FNSE, D.Sc, GSSRS, inaugurated the committee with a mandate to highlight Oyo State’s accomplishments over the last five decades. Akinade-Fijabi reiterated the governor’s charge to use the celebrations as a platform to promote the state’s identity as a beacon of education, culture, and economic vitality.
Reflecting on Oyo State’s Legacy and Future
“Fifty years ago, our forebears laid the foundation for a state distinguished by excellence, unity, and resilience,” Akinade-Fijabi remarked. “Today, we honor their vision and set a course for continued growth and prosperity. From Ibadan’s scholarly heritage to the vibrant communities of Oke-Ogun, Oyo, Ogbomosho, and Ibarapa, Oyo State stands as a symbol of cultural richness and limitless potential.”
The committee emphasizes that the golden jubilee is not solely a government affair but a collective celebration for all sons and daughters of Oyo State, including those in the diaspora. The event aims to unite residents, institutions, entrepreneurs, artists, youths, and persons with disabilities in a shared commitment to advancing the state’s legacy.
Looking Ahead: Building a Stronger Oyo State
As preparations intensify, the committee calls on everyone to renew their dedication to fostering an Oyo State that leads in education, governance, innovation, and economic development. The Oyo @ 50 celebrations will serve as a platform to inspire future generations and reinforce the state’s position as a trailblazer in Nigeria.
“Let us come together to celebrate 50 years of remarkable achievements and envision an even brighter future for Oyo State,” Akinade-Fijabi concluded.
The press conference was attended by other members of the Oyo State @ 50 Celebrations Committee, underscoring the collaborative spirit driving the preparations.
