Nigerian troops neutralize 19 bandits in Kano attack

Security forces from the Joint Task Force, Operation MESA, operating under the Nigerian Army’s 3 Brigade, successfully thwarted an armed assault targeting communities within Kano State’s Shanono Local Government Area, eliminating 19 armed bandits in the process.

On the evening of November 1, 2025, at approximately 5:00 pm, intelligence reports alerted the troops and allied security units to suspicious movements of bandits on motorcycles near the Ungwan Tudu, Ungwan Tsamiya, and Goron Dutse neighborhoods. This prompted a rapid deployment to intercept the hostile group.

Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 3 Brigade, detailed that the troops engaged the assailants in a fierce firefight, successfully neutralizing 19 of the attackers. Several motorcycles and two mobile phones were seized as evidence from the bandits.

Tragically, the operation resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and one local vigilante who were defending their communities during the confrontation.

Ongoing security measures continue in the region to safeguard vulnerable populations frequently targeted by cattle rustlers and other criminal elements, as emphasized by Captain Zubairu.

Residents are urged to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activities to the appropriate security agencies. Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, Commander of the 3 Brigade, reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s dedication to ensuring peace and stability in Kano State through coordinated efforts with sister security services.

This operation forms part of a broader strategic initiative aimed at reinforcing security in rural communities and restoring public trust in areas plagued by banditry and violent crime.
