The United States has finally completed its withdrawal from Afghanistan after the last of its planes took off from Kabul airport.
This latest development brings an end to years of chaos which led to the death of 2,400 Americans as well as tens of thousands of Afghans.
President Biden says he will address the American people on Tuesday but in a statement hails the military’s “courage, professionalism, and resolve” in executing the “the largest airlift in US history”.
Major General Chris Donahue, commander of the 82nd Airborne Division, was the last American soilder to leave Afghanistan as he boarded a C-17 cargo plane at Kabul airport.
The Talibans on the other hand are actually celebrating US withdrawal from the country, describing it as Independence on their end.
