Oyogist has learned that former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin is scheduled to be sentenced today, Friday 25th June 2021 for the murder of George Floyd.
Derek Chauvin has been in confinement for some months now, as lawyers and investigators have been working tirelessly in order to determine the duration of his punishment for the murder of George Floyd.
Chauvin’s defence team requested a probation on his sentence, but major Prosecutors demanded that Chauvin face not less than 30 years in prison.
It is noteworthy that the maximum sentence allowed by law for such cases is 40 years.
The sentencing hearing is expected to last at least an hour and to include statements from members of Floyd’s family, who may speak about his life and how his death has affected them, Oyogist learned further.
