The shutdown of the largest fuel pipeline network in the US has entered it’s 6th day following a ransomware attack on the Colonial Pipeline last week, Oyogist.com reports.
The ransomware attack halted 2.5 million barrels per day of fuel shipments.
The pipeline network escalates a total of 8,850 kilometres from US Gulf Coast oil refineries to consumers in mid-Atlantic and south-eastern states.
This Incident has affected nearly 60 per cent of petrol stations in metro Atlanta leaving them without petrol.
survey tracking firm, Geodaddy shows that a total of 65 per cent of petrol stations in North Carolina and 43 per cent in Georgia and South Carolina were without fuel.
A video trending online showed the moment an American man bought fuel in open containers.
Meanwhile, the US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has expressed concern regarding the Incident as it vowed to help restore Colonial operations, including moving gasoline to places that need it.
“Our top priority right now is getting the fuel to the communities that need it, and we will continue doing everything that we can to meet that goal in the coming days,”the agency said.
