The federal government has on Thursday announced the lifting of the ban placed on registration of new SIM cards in the country, OYOGist.com reports.
According the the federal government, users with valid a National Identification Number (NIN) can purchase and register new sim cards starting from the 19th of April.
The announcement was made through a statement released by the Technical Assistant (Information Technology) to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Femi Adeluyi.
Dr Adeluyi disclosed that, in line with the Nigerian Communications Act 2003, Section 23(a), the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, engineered the development of a revised National Digital Identity Policy for SIM card registration by working with industry stakeholders.
He noted that the key aspects of the draft policy were presented to the stakeholders at the 4th review meeting of the Ministerial Task Force on the NIN-SIM registration which held in February
