According to an announcement by Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Tanzania’s President John Magufuli has died at the age of 61, OYOGist.com reports.
The Vice President revealed that John Magufuli died of heart complications while receiving treatment at a hospital in Dar es Salam.
In an unconfirmed report circulated by the country’s opposition politicians, it was claimed that Magufuli had contracted COVID-19.
Magufuli was prominent for denying the existence of the coronavirus, and at one point the late Tanzania President called for prayers for COVID-19 and ignore the vaccines.
The former Vice President and now-Acting President of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan has announced a 14-days mourning for the late President and ordered flags to fly at half mast.
