According to report reaching oyogist.com, Governor Seyi Makinde has revealed the reason why plans to export maize to Botswana failed.
Recall that when the Governor was declared Governor-Elect in 2019, he met with some investors in Botswana to make plans on how Oyo state will export maize to the country.
Governor Seyi Makinde in his quarterly media chat at the Broadcasting corporation of Oyo state, BCOS, revealed why he changed his mind.
When asked “On Agriculture: What happened to Akufo and Eruwa farm estates and Botswana project?
He replied: “Things move slowly when it comes to governance projects because of bureaucracy. Both Akufo and Eruwa farm settlements are at the stage where they will be breaking ground shortly.”
“We signed an MOU with @IITA_CGIAR for the STEP programme which has commenced at Fasola Grammar School and 2 other schools. We have taken schools from all the geo political zones in Oyo State to be part of the programme.”
“The Botswana project, we said we will sell maize to them. However, we discovered that we have comparative advantage in cassava so we are focused on that. Just because I said maize before I became governor doesn’t mean I can’t change my mind.”
