According to reports reaching Oyogist.com, Dianne Durham, the first ever black gymnast to win a USA Gymnastics national championship, has died at age 52.
Sources disclosed that the former gymnast died in Chicago following a short illness.
USA Gymnastics CEO Li Li Leung further confirmed the incident in a statement, she said; “heartbroken to learn of Dianne’s passing.”
“As an icon and trailblazer in our sport, Dianne opened doors for generations of gymnasts who came after her, and her legacy carries on each day in gyms across the country,” the statement added. “Our thoughts are with her friends and family during this difficult time.”
