A group, Concerned Staff of Lagos State University, has urged the Visitor to the university, who is additionally the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to select a qualified candidate as the new Vice-Chancellor of the university.

NUC was quoted as saying, “Aside Fellowship of NPMCN, holders of the West African College of Physicians or West African College of Surgeons or the other recognised foreign Fellowship can’t be equated as Ph.D.”
“The NUC has come out with the standards for Ph.D programmes in clinical Sciences and has given a moratorium to those that possess a medical fellowship to urge their Ph.Ds by 2025. this is often in order that they will structure for their deficiency.
“Since the NUC is the supervising authority for Nigerian universities, its pronouncements on the matter supersedes the other one, to the extent of their contradictions,” it added.
Among other concerns raised by the group was that one among the shortlisted candidates didn’t meet the ten years’ post-professorial experience stipulated within the advertisement for the position.
“We believe that Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello is the just one who is eminently qualified for the office of the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, having ticked all the boxes as laid out in the requirements advertised for the position. She features a PhD in Physiology, and possesses well above the specified ten years’ experience as a Professor,” it added.
