According to report reaching oyogist.com, a bill seeking the establishment of an Aerospace and Aeronautics University in Oka Akoko, Ondo state, has reported passed its second reading on Wednesday in the upper chamber of the Nigerian House of Senate.

The bill which was sponsored by the senator representing Ondo North, Senator Robert Ajayi Boroffice, was read out loud after passing its second reading in the Nigerian house of Senate.

According to Senator Boroffice, the Aerospace and Aeronautics University would aid in giving a broad knowledge on science and technology associated with aircraft, missiles, satellites and spacecraft.

Sen. Boroffice also stated that over 200 Nigerians students were trained in Aerospace and Aeronautics Science Technology in the Russia, Ukraine, United States and Britain in pursuance for the Nigerian National Space Programme.

Senator Boroffice noted that the Aerospace and Aeronautics Science Technology would provide capacity building in Aerospace Science and Technology, and Aeronautics needed to sustain the country’s space programme.

“In Africa, there are few institutions offering Aerospace-related engineering programmes and there is no dedicated university of Aerospace and Aeronautics in Nigeria.

“Therefore, the bill seeks to transform aerospace industry and such transformation can only succeed through the establishment of a university that will lead training and research programmes and also ensure local availability of skilled workforce in Nigeria,” Sen. Boroffice stated.
