According to reports reaching Oyogist.com, Malian opposition leader, Soumaila Cissé has died of the novel coronavirus at age 71.
His death comes two month after he was abducted but later released by jihadist militants.
Cissé “died in France, where he had been taken for Covid-19 care”, a member of his family told reporters.
“I can confirm this terrible news. He’s dead,” a leader of the URD party said.
Following the 2018 vote, Cissé blamed officials of rigging the election, further claiming that he had won a runoff with 51.75 percent of the vote to Keita’s 48.25 percent.
