Torino loanee, Ola Aina becomes the first Nigerian to win Premier League Goal of the Month award

Super Eagles defender and Chelsea Academy product, Ola Aina has won the Premier League Goal of the Month award for November 2020.

The Torino loanee has entered the history books because the primary player with a Nigerian passport to win the distinguished accolade since the award was introduced for the 2016-2017 season.

Aina’s spectacular strike against West Brom on All Souls’ Day fought off competition from Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy, Southampton duo Danny Ings and James Ward-Prowse, Brighton & Hove’s Solly March and Leeds United’s Raphinha to mention the prize.

Aina teamed up with Fulham within the summer on a season-long loan from Serie A side Torino with an option to make the deal permanent and has been delivering fine performances, defensively and offensively.

The Super Eagles fullback has made nine appearances for Fulham since teaming up with the side, helping them to win two Premier League games.

His showings also helped the Cottagers to climb off the lowest three on the league table after gathering seven points from 11 games.

Aina started his career with Chelsea and spent quite decade at Stamford Bridge but only made three Premier League appearances for the club before leaving the side permanently in 2019 to hitch Torino.

The defender will hope to continue his impressive performances when Fulham slug it out against Premier League champions Liverpool on Sunday.
