The speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Sunday met with newspaper distributors and vendors in Abuja for Thursday’s murder on one of them, Ifeanyi Okereke, by an operative of the department of state services attached to its convoy.
This was only one of his colleagues, Ejike Egberimnwa, said Okereke was waiting for the resumption in the Ministry of Labour Employment and Productivity before he was killed,
However, Gbajabiamila, at the distribution center of newspapers in the area 1, Garki, Abuja, announced endowmen funds for Okereke, while his two children, one of them was nine days old on Sunday, would be a scholarship until the age of 21 years.
The speaker also said Okereke would be honuored in the plenary on Tuesday.
Remember that the vendor was shot by a speaker security aide at the Federal Secretariat at around 3 pm on Thursday and said to die at the National Hospital, Abuja.
The speaker, during the meeting said, “Many of you know me and those who have participated in my work for years will know that the focus of my legislative activities for years has protected ordinary people. I have done this from day 1 and I will continue to do so as long as God gives me life to function as a legislator or in any capacity.
“This is why this is a very difficult time for me. The irony is not lost, that the same person, who has fought for the cause of everyday Nigeria, as God will do, is the same person who, for whatever reason is investigating Will decompose, trapped in this situation. I have been in deep mourning since Thursday.”
Gbajabiamila said he had visited the family of the late Okereke in Kwata Village in the Madalla / Sulerja area of the Niger State, where he met his wife and children.
He said, “I have made a commitment to the family because his children are now my children. I have made a commitment to the family to care for children until they reach adulthood. I immediately instructed a lawyer in the office to immediately establish trust for education and welfare for children until they are 21 years old. “
Earlier, the leaders of distributors, as well as distributors, in their separate speech, noted that Gbajabiamila always identified with them on the street of Abuja, stating that protests by them did not oppose speakers but to seek justice for okereke.
Vendors, Egberimnwa ejike, who claimed to be eyewitnesses when the incident occurred, praised Gbajabiamila for taking proactive steps.
Egberimnwa added, “He is a 38-year-old man; he is no less than a hundred and – something to live more. You don’t know who he can be; he can be more than the speaker. He just got a job as a civil servant in the Federal Ministry of Labour (Employment and Productivity); He was waiting for capturing before he was shot dead by a happy trigger personnel. “
