Seun Kuti, the son of Maestro Afrobeat legendary, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has slammed the Association of Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Federal Government for the inability of the two parties to achieve a resolution to end university strikes embarked on by the university lecturers.
According to Social Crusader, who spoke while displaying a television program in Lagos on Friday, government officials and Asuu had dragged feet because their children did not attend public universities.
He said, “Asuu and the government, no one really cares about students. This is the real problem because the relationship between lecturers and students at the University is a fraud. We have seen all cases of bribery for signs, rape for signs and all of that.
“Even on the government side, they don’t care about students because all their children are schooling in abroad.
“Both of these organizations do not have an interest in Enlightenment of Nigeria’s mind in the heart. So, we must create a system that has educators who have interest in Nigerian students in the heart.
“We have created more education now than we have in the past, have that enhanced education? No. We have created more lawyers than we have in 1960. Does it improve justice? No.”
Asuu strike that led to the close of various state universities since March 2020 is expected to end soon after the federal government on Friday night accepted the demands of university lecturers that they were released from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System.
