The Lagos state government has confirmed that commercial motorcycles (OKADAS) and tricycles (Keke Napep) are bannedd from operating in six local governments and nine local council development areas of State.
This was contained in a press statement by the Commissioner of Lagos Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, titled ‘Hard Action on Traffic Law Violators on Wednesday.
Omotosho regretted the attack on the task force official in the state, which stated that the state government would continue to enforce traffic regulations to maintain sanity on the roads and save lives.
He said, “In the midst of law enforcement, which began on Tuesday, commercial motorbike riders had taken the law into their hands and attacked the Task Force team, injured officers carrying out their legitimate tasks. The perpetrators of this violence will be identified and made to face the law.
However, officers were not affected by criminal activities from motorbike riders; 131 motorbikes seized; 15 riders are arrested and prosecuted; and 150 vehicles were seized in various areass of the state
“The task force was then arraigned and prosecuted 35 vehicle drivers were impounded, who had to forfeit their car to the state to drive oncoming traffic; Driver 62 that piled BRT corridors fined N70,000 each; and 28 tricycle owners were also arraigned in court.
