According to report reaching OYOGist.com, Super Eagles striker, Cyriel Dessers has revealed why his name was omitted from the Super Eagles list to prosecute the double-header against Sierra Leone.
The Genk striker who made his debut for Nigeria in a 1-1 draw against Tunisia has not been on-form since making the switch to the Belgian club in the summer.
Speaking with AOI Football, Dessers disclosed that he was excited to score over the weekend because it has been a long time since he has done that for his club.
“It was nice to be on the score sheet again this weekend. I felt it’s been a long time coming for me and I hope to build on this goal in my subsequent matches.”
When asked about his exclusion from the Super Eagles squad, the 25-year-old striker revealed that he was sad for not making this list for the game coming up this month.
“On not getting a call up for the National team for games against Sierra Leone, I was not happy after knowing I did not make the list.”
However, the former Heracles Almelo sights his poor form at the club level as the reason he was excused from the list and vowed to improve.
“But then again, it shows I have to play more at club level and hopefully tries to always be at my best week in week out.”
The Nigerian striker has scored three goals in eight leagues for Genk while compatriots, Paul Onuachu have gotten nine goals in ten games.
