Igbos Control 50-60% Commercial Activities In Rivers State – Claims Barr. O. C. J Okocha

OYOGist.com has learned that following the recent killings and crisis in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, which has generated several controversial reactions over the weeks, the Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Barrister Onueze C.J Okocha, well known as Barrister O.C.J Okocha, has expressed his views and opinions on the situation.

The Former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, O.C.J Okocha while given a statement, stated that the Igbos in Rivers State, controls 50 to 60 percent commercial activities in the State. Claiming that he has many of them as his close friends. He further emphasized that the relationship between the Igbos and Rivers State is very cordial, that it is only Political boundaries of States of the federation that tends to divide the people.

O.C.J Okocha further stated that, the Rivers people has never for once had problems with the Igbos over the years, that it is not recorded anywhere. He added that his own Mother is an indigene of Anambra State that got married to Rivers State, which is Igbo and sees no reason why some group of people should derive pleasure, in breaking the existing cordial relationship between the Igbos and the Rivers people, and alleging that the Rivers State Governor doesn’t like the Igbos.

He further stated that it is quite unfortunate that in a time like this, when everyone should come together to make peace, there are people going about with false accusations. He added that there are Igbos who are serving in the Governor’s cabinet, and the Chairman of the State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) hails from Oyigbo as well.

The Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), O.C.J Okocha, made this disclosure on Wednesday evening, being the 4th of November 2020, in a statement when given a speech over the Oyigbo incidents and crisis.
