Reports reaching oyogist.com shows that the Supreme Court in Southern Korea handed down the ruling on former president, Lee, who served as the country’s head of state for five years from early 2008, fining him 13 billion won (US$11.5 million).

Earlier, a court in the Seoul district sentenced him to 15 years in jail, and the appellate court raised the sentence to 17 years.

Lee will be taken to a prison after being released on bail in February.

The former president was found guilty of embezzling millions of dollars from Samsung Group, the country’s biggest manufacturing company.
