According to report reaching OYOGist.com, the United States of America has given reasons why they are against the election of Ngozi Okonjo-Iwela as the New Director-general of the World Trade Organization.
This was made known in a statement by the US Trade representative who said, that the World Trade Organization is really in need of an experienced hand in the field as the organization needs serious reforms.
The World power is in support of the Korean Trade Minister, You Myung-hee for the same position, said the United States Trade Representative which is led by Robert Lighthizer.
In Mr. Robert’s words, he added that the Korean Minister is an experienced Trade expert with over 25- years of experience with several successful trade negotiations and she is a seasoned Trade, Policy Maker.
Minister Yoo has every required skill needed to be an effective leader of the organization.
In Okonjo-Iwela’s defense, she said that she is a development economist and has helped her country negotiate with several trade Ministers on the ECOWAS commo. External tariffs.
The US is the only country that has expressed opposition to Okonjo-Iwela’s election.
The WTO will reconvene on 9th November 2020 after the US General Election to decide who will take over as the WTO’s DG.
