President Buhari during his national address today concerning the ongoing #EndSARS protests going on in the country and the pockets of violence that have erupted in several places has promised to review the salary structure of the Nigerian Police Force.

Nationwide protests started against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, also known as SARS, a police unite that has been accused of several human rights violations including kidnapping and abduction, extraducial killings and rape.

However, the protests took a different turn when on the 20th of October, the Lagos State Governor Sanwo-Olu declared a 24hr curfew in Lagos and the millitary opened fire on hundreds of peaceful #EndSARS protesters that were trapped at the Lekki Toll Gate.

The following several retaliatory violence by thugs on State properties in the, and days of silence, President Buhari eventually addressed Nigerians on Thursday at 7PM local time.

In his address, the President said that the salary structures of the Police are being reviewed by the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission for an upward consideration.

“With regard to the welfare of police personnel, the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission has been directed to expedite action on the finalization of the new salary structure of members of the Nigeria Police Force.” President Muhammadu Buhari said on Thursday.
