The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu after paying a visit to one of the protests sites at Lekki Toll Plaza on Monday said he was in support of the citizens expressing their rights to demonstrations, OYOGist.com reports.
The Governor Sanwo-Olu also revealed that he identifies with the #EndSARS campaign and appealed to Lagosians to put the protests to rest tomorrow (Tuesday).
“I identify wholeheartedly with the #EndSARS campaign as it touches the essence of democratic freedom,” Governor Sanwo-Olu shared in a tweet.
Governor Sanwo-Olu appealed to protesters to not protest on Tuesday.
The Governor condemned the harassment of the anti-police brutality protesters by men of the police and assured residents that he’s meeting with the Lagos State Commissioner for Police tonight.
He promised to secure the release of those arrested during the protest tonight and secure their freedom before tomorrow.
“The protesters will be released tonight. Their rights will not be violated, I assure you,” Sanwo-Olu wrote.
