According to report reaching OYOGist.com, President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Danielson Bamidele, has directed students of higher institutions to prepare for a showdown with the authorities.
According to a post on the twitter handle of the association on Thursday, October 1, the association has not got a tangible result from consultations and consolidation with the government.
The president, who was elected in 2018, used the medium to call on Student Union Governments (SUG) across all campuses to mobilize their members for possible confrontation with the authorities.
The twitter-post reads in part: “Nigerian students are by this message put on notice to prepare for a massive showdown with authorities until our campuses are opened”. This is because all sectors of the establishment have been reopened except the institutions of higher learning.
Students are however urged to remain calm and await further instructions as to the date and time for this showdown.
It should be recalled that the federal government had, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, directed the closure of all schools since March. While the Federal Ministry of Education have announced the reopening of unity schools, there is no fixed date for reopening Nigeria Higher Institutions.
