Popular Lagos based Imam, Honourable Abdullateef Abdulhakeem, has declared his intention to contest for the governor of Lagos State in 2023, oyogist.com reports.
Abdullateef who was the Commissioner for Internal Affairs under Governor Akinwunmi Ambode launched a political movement called Type 2023.
The former Commissioner said 2023 is time for an Awori indigene to emerge as Governor of Lagos State. He said Awori indigenes have been sidelined from governance in Lagos State over the years. Abdullateef Abdulhakeem said he is ready to champion the Awori Movement in 2023.
On the clamour for an Awori indigene to govern Lagos, AbdulHakeem said, “For a very long time, the Aworis have been disenfranchised. Nobody thinks of them, the questions have always been what do they know? Which school do they go to, but which schools are they going that we have not attended? “
Abdullateef was a former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, he was also the Special Adviser to Lagos Speaker on Islamic Affairs and current Chief Imam of the Lagos Assembly Central Mosque.
He is a popular figure in Lagos, he preaches Islamic religious affairs on Radio Lagos every Friday.
His declaration sent shockwaves to Lagos State Governor and other politicians in the state.
A few hours after he declared his ambition, Abdullateef’s appointment as the Special Adviser to Lagos Speaker on Islamic Affairs was terminated.
