Good news for the participants of the Federal Government’s Special Public Works Programme spread across the 774,00 local government areas across the country, as everything is now set for their Bank validation in order to ease their payment of stipends, oyogist.com reports.
Participants are expected to begin to receive payment from the end of October, prompting the need to open valid accounts (with BVN) on time.
The Minister of State, Labour and Employment made this development known on Tuesday in a statement via Tweet.
Keyamo revealed that on Monday, he gave out letters of engagement to six banks, namely Zenith, UBA, Access, Fidelity, FCMB & Heritage to begin the opening of accounts (with BVN) for the 774,000 participants of the Special Public Works Programme in their branches in the 774 LGAs across the country.
He added that the banks assured the government that even in local government areas where they don’t have branches, temporary registration centers would be opened in such local government areas so that the participants would not have to travel far to open their accounts.
Speaking further, Festus Keyamo revealed that the government will soon publish which bank is taking care of each of the local government areas.
Consequently, while reacting to the development, many Nigerians lamented that they weren’t aware of how the selection of participants were done in their respective local government areas.
