Two weeks after Japan’s Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe announced his retirement from office over ill health, the country’s governing party has picked Yoshihide Suga as his successor on Monday.
OYOGist.com has gathered that Yoshihide Suga, a right-hand man to Shinzo Abe is set to take over as the Prime Minister of Japan on Wednesday (16th of September, 2020) in a special session of the legislature.
Shinzo Abe has been the longest-serving Prime Minister in Japan, after serving for eight years, with his tenure expected to end by 2021.
The Liberal Democratic Party controls the Parliament, and some hand-picked delegates voted to have Mr. Suga, 71, succeed Abe on Monday in a luxury hotel in central Tokyo.
Yoshihide Suga is an experienced politician, having worked along-side Shinzo Abe during his tenure as Japan’s Prime Minister.
