The Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City has granted an order restraining the police, Department of State Security (DSS) and any related security agency from arresting the immediate past Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Alhaji) Kabiru Adjoto in connection with the recent crisis in Edo Assembly, oyogist.com reports.
The Court made the order following an ex-parte application filled by RID Okezie Esq. asking the court to restrain the Police, Department of State Security (DSS) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) from molesting, harassing, disenfranchising, arresting or detaining Adjoto without the process of law pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice brought before it.
In a ruling, the Judge, Justice Efe Ikponmwonba, allowed the application, ordering the police, DSS, NCDC and other security agencies to suspend all actions pending the determination of the substantive matter.
“The Respondents by themselves, their agents, servants, privies, workmen and/or assigns are hereby restrained from molesting, harassing or disenfranchising the Applicant in any part of Edo State and Nigeria without compliance with the process of law, pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice”, the court ruled.
The restraining order of the court is coming on the heels of accusations by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State linking Adjoto and others as alledged sponsors of thugs who recently invaded Edo State House of Assembly.
