Arsenal have emerged as frontrunners to snap Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara from the noses of Liverpool after the Merseyside club showed unwillingness to meet his market price, oyogist.com reports.
The midfielder has been keen to work under Jurgen Klopp and even rejected Bayern’s contract offer with hope the Anfield based side will bid for him.
Liverpool are unwilling to pay £25m to a player who is 29 years and will be out of contract in a few months meaning Liverpool can sign him on a free transfer.
The deal also hinges on whether Georginio Wijnaldum extends his current contract as he is also wanted by current Barcelona Manager Ronald Koeman.
If Wijnaldum extends his stay, Liverpool will be in a strong position not to explore the deal and if he decides to leave, the merseyside outfit will have no option but to sign his replacement.
Klopp highly rates the player and is said to be keen on a deal. The player is also wanted at the Emirates with Arsenal short of quality midfielders in their squad.
