A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, chief Olabode George, has accused some members of his party of being traitors. Chief Bode George who was speaking during an appearance on Plus TV politics said PDP won the Lagos gubernatorial elections the first time the party won majority of the southwest states, but a PDP member, he refused to name, worked against the party so that Bola Tinubu can become governor, oyogist.com reports.
When asked by the presenter why PDP has never produced a governor in Lagos state?
Chief Bode George said, “two things that has happened in Lagos, everybody keeping asking why have you not been able to win Lagos? We (PDP) won Lagos the first time we swept the whole of the southwest.” But a member of his party worked for Tinubu to make him Governor.
He adds, that the traitor came to them apologising, saying “it was him who supported Tinubu to be able to cushion him and remove the loss so that he could get back to power”.
He further said that the PDP is trying to avoid mistakes of the past, by avoiding powerful influence from interfering in the party. He accused these powerful influence of imposing their preferred candidates on the party.
According to him “these people they are trying to impose are perpetually working for Bola Tinubu.” He adds that, majority of the people who claim to be party loyalists before leaving the PDP in Lagos, ran to Tinubu after leaving the party.
Recall that former Ekiti Governor, Ayo Fayose, raised similar concern when he said Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state should not decamp to the APC if wins reelection under the PDP in the forthcoming Edo governorship elections.
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu served two terms as governor of Lagos state from 1999 to 2007.
